I was first introduced to Guster by my friend Ricardo about 2 years ago when he lent me a copy of
Lost and Gone Forever. I immediately fell in love with their sound, and found a few of their earlier songs on Kazaa, which I also liked. Thus began my love affair with Guster. After hearing both Amsterdam and Careful on the radio here in Chicago, I decided I needed to check out their latest album.
Compared to Lost and Gone Forever,
Keep It Together is more subdued. However, Guster's knack for hummable melodies and smooth harmonies still shines through. My favorites are probably Careful, Backyard, and Red Oyster Cult. I don't much care for Diane or Homecoming King. I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today has a strange, different sound (almost reminds me of some Ken Stringfellow stuff, to be honest), and I haven't quite decided if I like it yet or not.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes pop-style melodies and great harmony work. And of course, Guster fans should eat this up.
