The Thing
Pretty much what I expected.
Nothing fantastic here. Pretty much in the line of other 80's creature horror (Predator, Alien, etc.). It was enjoyable because I was in the mood for a relatively dumb action/sci-fi flick. The special effects were actually pretty decent, considering. There was a scene where some obviously fake icicles wobbled on the ceiling. I guess they weren't mounted very well. Made me laugh, at least. It was funny to see a younger Wilford Brimley as well. The voice was the same but I could hardly recognize his face.

The plot wasn't very exciting in my opinion. It was never clear what the scientists were doing in the Arctic in the first place, and the method by which those infected became infected was never made clear. Also, they seemed to be so concerned about not transmitting things to one another (eating out of separate cans, fixing own meals, etc.), but then when MacReady wanted to get some blood from each of them, they all used the same scalpel and didn't even sanitize it! Ridiculous. Worth watching if that's your thing or you're in the mood, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend. There are better movies in this genre.
