I enjoyed this, especially towards the beginning, before Hughes' disease started to really take hold and he went crazy. I did not like Cate Blanchett at all - in fact, I hated her character, her accent, and I wanted to just be rid of her every time she came on the screen. I don't know what it was. Kate beckinsale, on the other hand... :-) I thought the film suffered from Scorcese Syndrome to some extent - it was almost too epic. I mean, the story of Hughes is impressive, and he took chances and faced bigger opponents and everything, but the movie was just too expansive, and frankly, too long... I got a little bored. I really didn't get into Hughes as a character, either. He just wasn't as likeable as Tucker, and the movie really didn't do a lot to explain this illness; it just presented it, and it grated on me because there were so many scenes of him going nuts.
There were a lot of similarities between Tucker and The People VS Larry Flynt, especially the courtroom scenes. It was interesting to see just how smart Hughes really was, just like Tucker and Flynt. And the obviously corrupt government angered me just like it did in Tucker.
Overall, a decent film, but not as good as everyone made it out to be.
