One of two movies shown on my flight back from Chicago.
I was pleasantly surprised by the beginning of this film. Though narration is often gimmicky, it was done pretty well and worked for establishing a framework for the story. Both Sandler's character and Vega's were very good. I found Tea Leoni incredibly annoying, but that was the point. Women are psychotic! Her mother was charming, though, and quite funny. I was disappointed that Sandler and Vega eventually ended up romantically involved. Frankly, I was hoping for something more from Sandler's character, though I suppose his wife's cheating on him certainly didn't help things. I thought the culture-clash was very well illustrated, and the conversation between Sandler and Vega about children was extremely good - I wish the movie had really focused a little more on that aspect of it rather than the romantic tension. I also did not like the ending. No real sense of closure, and no knowledge of what happened next, other than Christina's admission essay. It left me wanting a lot more.
