Server Back Up (sort of…)

MAFIA, my loyal server for the past couple of years, which I lovingly crafted from bits and pieces of computers that I scrounged over the course of a year, has finally croaked. I think there’s something wrong with the CPU. It’s overheating constantly, despite the fact that the fan is running OK and everything else seems fine. When the CPU gets really hot, I get all kinds of crazy things happening, and then finally the machine just shuts down in an effort to protect itself from spontaneously combusting, I suppose. It’s nice to see that my little baby has a sense of self-preservation. Luckily I was able to boot it up and grab a recent backup of the website, which is all I was really using it for (other than some random Linux projects here and there). I have moved everything to MEDIABOX, my Media Center PC. I installed Apache 2 and MySQL and everything seems to be back to normal. We’ll see how MEDIABOX handles recording TV and serving up files at the same time. I don’t think it’ll have too much trouble. My main regret is that I no longer have a machine with Linux on it. I could go back to MythTV, I suppose, but I don’t think I’m ready to fool with trying to get my IR reciever working in it again. Plus, I would have to migrate my website again. Guh. For now, we’ll see how MEDIABOX does.
