Pink Floyd: The Division Bell

While I was doing the dishes tonight, a song from this album (Coming Back to Life, for the record) came on my iTunes playlist. I hadn’t heard it before (not a terribly rare occurrence when your playlist is as large as mine), and I was enthralled. I knew Pink Floyd was good, but could this really be them? I dried my hands and checked the old computer, and sure enough, it was. I decided it was high time I listened to The Division Bell a full lsten, so I put the entire album on.

Well strike me pink, Mr. Lloyd! This album is brilliant! It is perfect background rock, in my opinion. It’s certainly a little different from "classic" Floyd, and I’m not sure if it’s as perfect an album as Dark Side of the Moon, but I am really enjoying it. The music ebbs and flows, and switches from moaning guitar solos to driving melodies with little effort. I am really liking it.

Alas, all is not well. After I finished the dishes, I browsed over to RollingStone.com to see what their review of the album said. They only gave it two stars! And here I am thinking it’s quite simply the best album I’ve heard in, well, forever! Proof yet again that I’ll never write for Rolling Stone, and if I ever get reviewed in it, it’ll probably be a bad one. Oh well, I like what I like. I think I’ll go for a run and listen to this while I do it. :-)
